Whatever your diet may be, if you practice intensive sports / fitness, protein intake will always be a focal point.

When you practice fitness fanatically, you need a lot more protein than a “normal diet” delivers, especially if you also want to lose weight and lose fat. A healthy, Dutch diet provides about 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. This intake is sufficient for non-athletes, but if you practice fitness/sports, especially when you also want to lose weight (more specifically – fat), then the need for protein increases.

Scientists and athletes have differing opinions on exactly how much. According to the most conservative estimates, athletes focused on strength should ingest 1.4 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, but most sports scientists estimate around 1.8 grams. In practice, there are many sports diets, with the aim of losing weight, that exceed that and still give results.

Even if you do not increase the amount of protein in your “normal diet” you will achieve results in a fitness program, where getting into shape and improving your condition is your target. Yet a healthy person responds better to such a program, as he or she gets more proteins.

A diet with more protein has two important effects. One is obvious: your body will recover more easily. This is a process in which proteins play an important role. Proteins also play a role in the fat burning process when you eat something more than a “normal diet” in which the total calorie requirement contains more carbohydrates and fats.

Protein supplements can help you increase protein intake. A whey-protein supplement is a high-quality protein due to its high biological value and the complete amino acid profile.

Nutrition always remains the basis for a good nutrition program. Protein supplements can be an important part of giving your body exactly the right proteins when your body needs them. For example after a workout. Always strive for the most effective process to achieve your particular goal.

Fast and slow proteins

MKBM offers two different proteins: whey and casein. Both proteins are extracted from cow’s milk and both proteins have their own advantages. Which protein fits best with your diet really depends on your personal goals.

Whey protein is quickly absorbed by the body and thereby restores the muscles after a workout. This makes whey protein ideal immediately after exercise. Whey protein makes you feel less full and the body digests it quicker.

Casein protein is slowly absorbed by the body. Casein is therefore suitable for preventing loss of muscle mass and perfect to bridge the time between training sessions. Casein protein fits incredibly well with a diet in which the goal is to lose weight. In addition casein protein is also ideally warmed up, so it can be included in the dishes served as part of the Killerbody Diet.

Vegan protein

Besides our own MKBM protein shakes, we have chosen to offer fully-fledged vegan protein shakes. These shakes perfectly complement a vegan diet and it’s good for people who are allergic to cow’s milk.
